"Great for beginners "

These crank Bro mallets are great for "beginners". Tension builds, I like being locked in because I'm pushing really hard and don't want to pop out. If you're like me I'd stick with SPDs, but other than that they work great and look sore on my bike path.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Unreliable

Great pedals. in Sports

I have a few pairs of eggbeaters on other bikes so it was my pedals when I designed my only speed. They are simple, light and easy to use. The current design is a little different from the original, but I was happy to see that the spikes that fit the old Gen 1 Eggs are the same for them. They are easy to install and tighten with an Allen key inserted into the end of the shaft.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Expensive

Great entry-level cyclocross pedals

I've been hesitant to get the Eggbeater 3 for a long time, but in the end I couldn't justify installing it on my slightly underpowered CX bike. That being said, I settled on the EggBeater 1 and couldn't be happier. 4 ways to buckle up makes transferring during a trip much easier. I recently attended a mud festival and the pedals did a pretty good job of getting rid of the mud. They are a little heavier than expected but that suits me. They look high quality and are already fancy.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Hard to say

Good basic pedals for road or hill - the price is right

Good basic pedals for road or hill. EASY to cut - important for me on Mtn. Bike tours. We are not "heavy sausages", the price is a pretty important criterion. We have Crank Brothers pedals on 7 of our streets and Mtn. Bikes as my wife and I are about the same inseam and can ride any of the 7 bikes in the same cycling shoes. Some guys say they're crazy. Pedals can fail (don't hit them on a rock!), but I haven't had a single pedal failure yet!

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Negative is present

was very happy to upgrade my 10+ year old and ended up broke.

Was very happy to upgrade my racquets which are over 10 years old and finally broke. They have noticeably improved their production. The new pedals are smoother than the originals and I hope I can last as many good years with them as I did with my other pair. I've used SPD, Speedplay and earlier. See pedals in the past, the whisk clamp is by far the best all-around design to float more freely and function in even the dirtiest, dirtiest conditions.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others

Light, Heavy, Unstable

These pedals are inexpensive but heavy. A major benefit of Eggbeaters is that it's easy for new riders to latch on to, the novelty wears off quickly for those of us training for strength. The lugs are too floating to feel stable when pedaling, minimizing the sense of "oneness" with the drivetrain. The proof was on Strava when I set the same power with the platform pedals. They are good for acclimatization/training but not for performance and certainly not for racing. Look, the Keo Blade Carbon…

The spring comes out of its groove.

Update: I reordered this pedal and the new one came with a black insert to prevent the spring from slipping out. It's not in the first photo but you can see it in the second photo. I'm glad to see that they corrected their design error. I bought these for their unobtrusive use. I learned to get in and out easily and they worked well. But after a while the spring on both pedals jumped out of the groove on the outside and the screw cap kept falling out. There is no way to keep the spring in its…

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Fits road bikes only, not MTB

1. Installation requires an unusually large Allen key. Either 5/16" or 8mm. Hard to tell. This isn't specified anywhere. 2. The on/off clipping is quite unstable. 3. If you twist your heel a little they can come loose. I've been using them since about a year.Road and mountain biking on moderate trails. But when I tried to ride on the advanced route they turned the ride into a nightmare.I have ridden such advanced trails before with Shimano SPD pedals with no problems in comparison to Eggbeaters.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Legacy model
