This is a very technical post, if you are familiar with this then read on. To recap for everyone else, this product no longer works on Linux. Old versions of this product did. Current No. Shame on TP-Link for false advertising and shame on TP-Link for changing the technical aspects of a product without providing a corrected model number, resulting in the loss of many hours of tail hunting. It is with great sadness that I write to you that this product is no longer available. works with linux. The version shipped to me used the MT7610u MediaTek chipset. After a lot of digging and hair pulling I managed to get this working a bit (very buggy and unstable) using a driver found on Github in the ulli-kroll/mt7610u repository. Out of several drivers I've tried, this is the only drive I could find that actually compiled, the rest are broken. NetworkManager gets blocked and causes the entire system to panic and freeze while loading the driver. Stopping NetworkManager allowed the driver to load first without crashing the system and I was able to connect to my network. The map was extremely unstable. I was able to send about 3-5 ICMP packets before the connection dropped and reconnected after a few moments. It looks like the driver author is working on it right now, which is why he's using mac80211, so maybe there's hope this will work sometime in the future.
