Ideal for powdered spices and toppings such as cinnamon, paprika, parmesan cheese, powdered sugar, cocoa or grains and seeds such as cornmeal and poppy seeds. Sugar and salt aren't too much since they sprinkle the granules on the food and don't sprinkle it. This isn't one of those big tabletop shakers you use to flour a breadboard before kneading. It fits perfectly in my hand. It holds almost a can of smoked paprika powder. Usually it's aluminum. I love that you can slide the cap to choose from three hole sizes. I can't imagine why the salt shaker has such big holes. It would be too much to be tasty. Two hole sizes can work with rock salt. Customers who saw rust may have exposed the canister to corrosive substances and humid climates. Although I live a mile from the sea I haven't seen rust, but I haven't added anything corrosive like salt to it. Also remember that if a product is not made from 18/10 or 18/8 stainless steel, also known as 304 stainless steel, it will most likely rust if the right conditions are met. Stainless steel is generally more expensive than this product.
