Review on ๐Ÿšด Cygolite Dash Pro โ€“ 600 Lumen Bike Light: Versatile Modes, Compact and Durable, Water Resistant โ€“ Perfect for Aero Road & Commuter Bicycles by Eric Power

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Would be a better commuter headlight if it had horizontal glare limitation. 4 LED DRLs + main light is a great combination.

As a cyclist and motorcyclist I am obsessed with light to see and be seen so I don't get hit by a car. The last 10 years have been great because LED technology keeps getting better and cheaper. In 2014, various reviewer blogs mentioned that the Dash 320 was the best bike light. Now in 2015 Cygolite has upgraded the Dash 320 to 350 and also added a Dash 450. I went with 450 just in case I needed more light in darker residential streets and its low to medium constant settings provide ample illumination without glare. . oncoming traffic. Based on Planet Bike and other headlight manufacturers I used around 2008 this was a huge improvement. I love the combination of tiny DRLs and big key lights; DRLs make you more visible and big lights let you see more. My favorite feature is the Steady Pulse night mode, where the bike flashes and lets you see without blinding you. I also love that it was "designed, engineered, and built in the USA" and has Cree LEDs. This bike has a hefty feel, unlike my old "Made in China" lights that I donated. It is used in the "Urban 650" from Light & Motion. This lantern is also made and assembled in the USA and has a high-quality appearance. While this light is more powerful, it costs more and lacks a four LED array. I wish it had yellow sidelights, a better battery indicator, and the extra colors that have light and motion. Overall I bought it because of the combination of DRL and big light, and also because its smaller brothers (Dash 320/350) got good reviews. So far he has done his job very well day and night. *Update*: Changed from 5 stars to 4 stars as there is no horizontal flare clipping. The current design throws too much light vertically, which blinds oncoming traffic even at minimum power and a 45-degree angle; The current design is great for off-road/off-road use, but as the commuter light that Cygolite sells, it becomes a nuisance and a hazard on the roads. I took this lantern to Germany because the rental bikes there have weak dynamo lights. . Today I was stopped by a police officer. She let me go with a warning because my light didn't comply with the StVZO regulation (2013 law) which dictates that headlights must be turned off horizontally, including for bicycles. The Germans are ahead of America as usual, because the current design dazzles at every turn. For the same reasons, I also do without Light & Motion lighting. American/Chinese manufacturers can fix this easily, but they won't do it until the law tells them to. The Philips Saferide LED, available from Revain, looks like a good contender with the appropriate cutoffs.
