Either mine is defective or it has a lousy design

I had high hopes based on the reviews. I am extremely disappointed. It won't hold my phone securely. When I screw in the handle to tighten the clamp, the shaft going through the top bracket starts moving out of the bracket, eventually pushing the tightening handle away. Even if I hold the top and bottom mounts together with one hand and turn the knob with the other, it doesn't hold tight. I'm sending it back.
