Thought I'd have to pay $700 to replace the fuel pressure regulator and/or fuel pump on a 253,000 mile 5.7 liter Vortec. At idle, the car worked smoothly, but sometimes there were strong vibrations. Those two conditions are a bit conflicting so I thought of checking the fuel pressure as the dealer originally suggested (and they wanted to replace all the injectors). I was shocked when the ignition kept reading 63psi and ran at 57psi. With the engine off, it held pressure in excess of 55psi for over 15 minutes, there was no vacuum leak here. Cleaned the throttle body/housing and noticed an immediate improvement in the throttle position scanner. Replaced the MAP sensor, cleaned the mass air flow sensor and used two bottles of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner and my Vortec ran like new. The moral here is that the price and exceptional quality of the tool will save you big bucks. For the price and quality of the tool you can't go wrong with the Equus 3640 if you suspect a fuel pressure issue.
