iPhone is preferable to this device Garmin

Old-school technology, but not easy to use and not without serious flaws. I sent the device back. I've had no issues with other GARMIN devices including my trusty bike computer. Everything just connects to my iPhone and MAC via Garmin apps. The MAPGPS 64sx has impressive GPS accuracy with multiple satellite choices and decent battery life. I like that it's light and small enough to fit in a cargo bag. However, something as simple as looking up an address won't work because the state won't be recognized until you buy an additional (non-refundable) $100 CITY NAVIGATOR NT card. I purchased a non-refundable card, but GARMIN CONNECT was unable to redeem my purchase due to an ongoing "temporary" server error that GARMIN SUPPORT was unable to resolve. My chat ended and I was told that the engineering team would continue to work, but the ticket was not generated and I never received a response. Frustrated after countless hours of troubleshooting with no help from Garmin and I lost $100. The map's resolution is rather weak, especially compared to a modern smartphone. The lack of a touchscreen makes navigating the maps slow and difficult. When purchasing, be prepared to also purchase a 32GB MICRO SD card for updating and syncing maps. You will also need two AA batteries, preferably LITHIUM as batteries are not included. The battery is optional. You will also need a screen protector. Get ready to set up your phone by downloading the Garmin Connect app to your smartphone and Garmin Express to your computer. You connect to the Garmin Express on your computer via the included USB cable, which allows for syncing but doesn't charge the batteries in the device unless you buy an extra battery, which many reviewers call junk. Li AA batteries are supposedly the way to go. Although I lost $100 downloading the map, I'm relieved to be able to return this nightmarish device. THANK YOU AMAZONE! Like the other reviewer who has a hard time getting directions, I'll learn how to use my smartphone for desert and city hikes with improved battery backup and great new apps.
