Review on Enhance Your MTB Experience with the RockShox Maxle Ultimate Rear - Boost Compatibility Unleashed by James Pope

Used for conversion with Shimano

I have a DiamondBike Mission Pro with a 12x142 rear axle. I ordered new wheels and they come in the Boost version. It was fine up front as I swapped out the fork for a boost fork, but there was a problem at the rear as it has a 6mm wider hub. It also uses a Shimano axle. Luckily the rear triangle is flexible enough to fit a 6mm wider axle, but I couldn't find a suitable axle or nut! Options I've found: 1. Get a hex nut from a hardware store and cut it to fit the frame where the Shimano nut fits - I didn't want a rusty piece of steel inside. Take the Maxle axle and find a nut for it. I found a DiamondBack Mason nut that fits, but it gets lost in the frame hole a lot. This would be my fallback if nothing else was found.3. Take the Maxle axle and nut off the T2101 Kinetic 12mm Thru Axle Coarse and simply shave the edges of the nut a little. I used #3 with this Maxle axle. I only had to shorten the axle a few mm to get it flush with the face of the nut. Depending on your frame, you may or may not need to do this. I also tried the 188mm Maxle and it was too long.

Pros
  • 12x148mm: 180mm length, thread length
Cons
  • I don't like it that much, everything is fine
