Key point missing from photos and information: Install so the tab/tab is flush with the control housing. When installed with a gap between the KDP and the tab, the tab can rotate when the screw is loosened, which can cause the KDP to fail, but more likely because this tab interferes with the gear train! Might be worse than loosening the dowel pin. Still: avoid all the mess, install it right. I have attached photos.
