They are very reliable and easy to use. Note that when using S2c modules in a network with Series 1 modules, you must ensure that they are running the same firmware version. I am currently using firmware version 802.15.4 on Series 1 modules and version 802.15.4HT on the S2c module. Updating the firmware is very easy with the XCTU utility provided by DIGI, which is also used to set up the radio. S2c radios come with a different firmware version that is not compatible with Series 1 radios.
