It looks like a bowl for yarn, but there's something inside to keep the yarn from dusting easily. You won't keep a bunch of balls of yarn for storage. Think of it as a "single project" bag... I bought 4 bags so I had 4 of them for 4 different projects. I figured I could put the yarn, needle, and pattern in the bag so as not to lose the details.
