Review on πŸ”Œ Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness for Lexus RX350, RX450h - CURT 56083, Black by Dave Sidhu

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I just hope you have the tow pack

On my 2014 Lexus RX350, I installed the wire connector (Curt T-connector 56083) while installing the tow hitch and after removing the fairing. It is easier to install with the bezel removed, but it can also be installed with the bezel attached. It is easy to install as it simply plugs into an outlet. The hardest part is removing the factory installed cover from the outlet. If you have the Lexus TOW PACK installed from the factory then you don't need to read the rest of this review. However, the MOST IMPORTANT thing to understand is that just because you have an outlet in front of the driver's side rear bumper, it won't work. This does not mean that the socket is actually connected to the Lexus wiring system. The socket connects to the Lexus wiring system ONLY if your vehicle was supplied with a factory installed Lexus TOW PACK. You will need to check the new car window decal that came with the car to see if it includes the factory installed TOW PACK, or you can enter your VIN number into the Lexus online database to see if it does factory installed TOW PACK includes an option that the original owner paid for. If your vehicle does NOT have the factory installed TRAILER PACK, it does not have a taillight signal control module located behind your vehicle's passenger side trunk trim. SURPRISE! If you remove the trunk trim on the passenger side, you will see that the connector is just hanging by the black tape. Just think about it. You paid $50,000 for a luxury SUV, and Lexus was too cheap to include a taillight control module that would likely cost $10-20 to install during your car build. It gets worse. Now you have to go back to the Lexus dealership and buy a $125 taillight control module and the parts department won't know what or why you want to buy that control module. But wait, it gets worse! You come home and remove the trunk trim (a 30-60 minute task) and find that there is no 25 cent screw in the support frame and Lexus does not have a 25 cent screw in the box with the taillight control module has. Luckily I had the right size metric screw in my screw collection. Alternatively, you can buy a universal taillight control module from Kurt, but you'll have to do some messy wiring in your Lexus' wiring system. First lesson from this story: just because you see a wiring connector in your Lexus, don't assume it's actually connected to the wiring system. The second lesson is don't think Lexus will give you a free 25 cent screw just because you paid $50,000 for a luxury car!

Pros
  • factory installed. I'm looking forward to
Cons
  • . The list is getting long.
