Review on πŸ”Œ DZS Elec 2PCS LM2596 DC-DC Step Down Variable Volt Regulator: Adjustable Buck Converter for Stable Power Supply by Paul Philippe

You get what you pay for

For the price I can't complain much. And these buck converters (mostly) do what they are supposed to do. But they suffer from the fact that they have uniquely low quality adjustable resistors. In the end I managed to tune them to about the right voltage. But it is certainly not a precision resistor in the conventional sense. The voltages jump up and down randomly every time you try to make adjustments. I wish the manufacturer would spend pennies more and buy a resistor that actually works reliably. The PCB layout is also a bit unfortunate. As much as I appreciate the really small form factor, the mounting holes are dangerously close to electrical components. You must use either non-conductive screws or very small head screws. At the very least, use non-conductive washers (of course, this introduces its own problems, as there isn't even much room to use a washer). Otherwise, if you do not take these precautions, there is a high possibility of a short circuit. Overall I'm not entirely upset with my purchase considering it was cheap. But I've certainly received significantly higher quality products - even in the same price range.
