This bird feeder was ignored for about a month. The problem was the short 1.25 inch perches under each feeding hole. Even the smallest birds like finches and bunting found it difficult to use. I was going to throw it away, but I have an idea. Pins that were too short were cut off with side cutters. A hole was then drilled directly under each feedhole molding. The bamboo skewer was inserted into the hole and pushed to the other side. Each side of the new skewer was cut to three inches long with the result that I hoped it would be a more comfortable place for the birds. It worked! Within a few days this feeder has become the most popular feeder in my backyard. Even small buntings utilize nearly all three inches of the new, longer bass. The conversion only took a few minutes. I will be ordering another one in a moment to use with a different type of seed.
