It took a bit of fiddling, but I was able to compile and install the Hubble data processing software on this small wonder board (8GB version). There is a pip repository setup for hosting ARM compiled versions of many required packages. There were still some difficulties compiling the Fortran source code (phew!), but in the end it's doable. Now this is a good Jupyter lab server for data development and analysis. Hopefully, Apple's move to ARM hardware will help expand software support for the Pi. Although the chip supports a native 64-bit bus, the underlying Raspberry Pi operating system (in production at the time of this review) is still 32-bit. We look forward to even more power in the future! I didn't want to risk heat, so I bought a case with heatsinks and a fan, and temperatures stayed very reasonable. I also opted for an official power supply (check current third-party power supply ratings!) and a fast micro SD card.
