Update: I can appreciate this lighter a little more - when I ran out of matches and other lighters and used it to light the fireplace! And my candles. However, to light the fireplace you need to put it on paper, since the flame is very small. But so far it has always worked and recharged. So I'm increasing my stars to 4 as it does the job for small lighting things. And it's better not to throw things in the landfill. The best thing about this lighter is that it is rechargeable. No more filling up the landfill with plastic lighters that don't last long and are often difficult to light. Don't think about lighting your grill, light a candle or if you have paper in your chimney to start it. It doesn't look like butane lighters. But there will be flames and (pause, punch, try) POOH! Your candle is burning. A more environmentally friendly lighter. To work: Slide the black sliding piece up to reveal the button. Press the button and you will hear a sharp electrical noise. Hold it to the wick of a candle or whatever you're lighting, and (Pause, wave, wait.) Phew, flame and light! The USB thing is on the side and charges for a couple of hours. Mine arrived charged enough to use right away but I'm charging it now - note the charging cable is short but I don't mind. no longer looks as new or as refurbished. It has a catch if you need it. You'll know it's activated by the blue "epress" button that appears when you slide the slider up. I don't see the price to get the price. I wonder if they will make them perform even better than the quality products made here in the USA. Now that I have it I would do a little research and see how it works.
