Love these foam inserts. I use them in my Whisper 60 food filter. They provide good mechanical filtration, good habitat for bacteria that clean the water of chemical compounds so they live and last much longer than the bio bags the filter is designed for. And on top of that, these foam trays are significantly cheaper. I use two of these filters in my 125 gallon tank and I think they work great. This is a good, cheap alternative to bio-beads for those who have purchased an aquarium without pre-drilled holes and are not set up for an under-tank filtration system. I have no issues with odor, ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and pH imbalance. Rinse and replace regularly under the sink. My foam insert began to deteriorate after being in the filter for over a year. I also sometimes add bits of this foam to the powerhead intake manifolds for additional mechanical filtration.
