First of all I agree the cap is great in theory. Open the petals as you like, or just drag them to the left and they're fully open. Rain gear was my selling point back then and I still need a new regulator. Not to mention, why keep changing caps when there's no need to? A very heavy, well-built construction, of course, but I doubt it's cast iron. I'm no cast iron guru, but after one cleaning the black quickly faded to a gray silver. I'm not sure if it matters, but here it is. I baked and seasoned the cap pieces when they first arrived for easier cleaning when the time comes. Not sure if this was a bug or not, but after the first few (3-4) smoke sessions the lid became very, very difficult to open. Both petals or fully open. Grease and smoke almost closed the lid, so if you're looking for easy BBQ sessions I'm sure you're fine... but if you're planning on lots of brisket, pork, bacon, etc. .be careful. Kind of chain mail cleaning so take it as it is and I cleaned well today and was surprised at how easy it was to get rid of all the dirt compared to the barrel iron mesh but when it stays tight after three or four sessions it quickly becomes frustrating . In hindsight, a new controller made from a green egg and only adding a rain cover would have made more sense to me.
