It's cast iron but poorly made. Whether it was the extreme heat or the steel screw connecting the lid to the frame I don't know, but after one use a crack appeared in that spot and now the lid isn't connected. Use once, then useless. It's thick, but not for studying and not durable.

Guess what? It's a useless product in a lot of rain. The quality is great and it fits perfectly, but you'd better keep your BGE under a roof, under an umbrella, or under a clear sky. The cover just covers the hole in the dome, so not enough for my taste. Wouldn't buy again.

I like the product but it started to rust 24 hours after it was out. My original BGE cap is 8 years old, has survived uncoated on the outside and has no rust. I'm afraid that's too expensive junk that won't stand the test of time. I can't find a US phone number or email address to contact them. I guess I gotta get back to Revain.

Very happy with this cast iron lid for my big Big Green Egg. It's cast iron, so if you leave it outside (even covered) it will rust. It's only cast iron. I seasoned them with avocado oil and baked them at 500°C for an hour to better protect them from rusting like I do with any cast iron skillet. This is a great hat for grilling in the rain. With the new padding it sits nice and tight without having to worry about it coming loose. I've been using it for about a month. I would buy again.

Added to KJ Classic II. Not as "heavy" as OEM, but works. The fit is tight, no air escapes at the edges. It gets hotter than the original part so I suspect it loses heat a little faster, but it didn't affect Joe's ability to retain heat. Just don't touch it without gloves (obviously). The big plus is that you can cook without worrying about rain getting in, and it looks a lot better than taking the half flapper and leaning it on it (I didn't, but my neighbor did did it.) ;)

This seems like an unfair review considering what I was looking for, but thought I'd post it here for future customers and KAMaster. The only reason I was looking for a new Big Green Egg cap was to update a new gift: Smobot. Unfortunately Smobot doesn't work with the new cap (rEGGulator) and they have their own cap but it's sold out with no known when it will be available. First of all I agree the cap is great in theory. Open the petals as you like, or just drag them to the left and they're fully open. Rain gear was my selling point back then and I still need a new regulator. Not to mention, why keep changing caps when there's no need to? A very heavy, well-built construction, of course, but I doubt it's cast iron. I'm no cast iron guru, but after one cleaning the black quickly faded to a gray silver.
