After giving this ad a good time to get used to it, I think I can see it properly now. The first thing that struck me is that the white screens are absolutely terribly bright. As a person obsessed with saturated colors, I will not reduce the brightness. Either way, it's a great display for HDR, as it typically renders white objects at a certain brightness. Blacks are both beautiful and disappointing. It's great that you get true black (I'm playing in the dark, so big props) but since the dimming zones are decently sized you'll see the backlighting around objects glowing against a black background. In games it's not that big of a problem, as completely dark screens are rare, but in videos it can be quite annoying. You will not forget that this is not OLED. The refresh rate is fantastic and the chroma subsampling is not noticeable even when overclocked. Just to be clear, 4K 120Hz mode is actually running full SRGB, so it doesn't look any different than usual. Only the complementary colors are missing, which are only possible at or below 98Hz. I didn't notice any blurring or IPS ghosting, so the picture stays good in moments of high responsiveness. However, I can confirm a few things this display isn't good at. Firstly, the panel's backlighting isn't perfectly balanced everywhere as it has darker and lighter spots, which I think is almost unacceptable at this price point. You don't notice that with FALD, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the backlight isn't perfectly balanced. The fan is another matter. If you have a quiet computer and open your headphones, you might be able to hear it. It's relatively quiet, but the lack of it on most monitors makes it less competitive. The fan also creates an odd warm spot just below it that's almost 10 degrees warmer than the air around it. And the worst thing is that the fan turns off almost 10 minutes after turning off. And if you disabled deep sleep in the OSD, it will never turn off. Another small point of criticism is the stand. It barely fits on my desk. It feels unsafe with my $2,000 monitor just a few millimeters from falling off the table. It's VESA certified, but I've heard that most mounts block the fans, making them louder. It's a really hard display to recommend if you really don't want true HDR and 4K, otherwise it's a real hit or miss at $2,000. I would wholeheartedly recommend most people right now to buy a cheap $300 1440p monitor and upgrade if microLED takes off.
