Review on SCI-CORE Training Golf Balls - Real-Feel Practice Golf Balls for Kids & Adults - Indoor & Outdoor Use - Standard Size (6 Pack) by Roy Niemeyer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My favorite home exercise ball (so far). Read this comparison.

I have an indoor golf simulator with SkyTrak, but I don't have a good place to hit real golf balls, so I was looking for the best indoor training ball. By best, I mean a ball that mimics a real ball as closely as possible, but is safe enough to play indoors in my non-ideal configuration. So far I've tried almost Golf, GoSports Foam, GoSports Form Flight and this Sci-Core. Also please note that I am not a very good golfer and at 60 my club/ball speed is not very good. According to SkyTrak my good swings average between 100 and 110 balls (3 iron) which seems very low and hopefully is due to those softer, lighter balls. First is the weight comparison. Regular golf balls typically weigh 46 grams. The Sci-Core weighs 22 grams and costs $2.50 each. GoSports Form Flights weigh 15 grams and cost $0.83 each. Fast Golfs weigh 14 grams and cost $1.90 each. is Sci-Core. At 22 grams they are the closest to actual weight and I consistently hit them straighter and from further away. They also have less spin than others according to SkyTrak measurements, so keep that in mind for your short game. I like the feel in my hand, they have a slightly shiny and soft surface and I can hardly squeeze them. I only see them in bright orange on the Revain, but luckily SkyTrak has no problem spotting them. They have an eye-catching logo that doesn't seem to rub off with use. The downside is the price of $2.50 each but it's not like you lose them on the track and after some abuse I'm still on the first ball and it barely wears out. The only other caveat is that since they are heavier they hit harder than softer balls and I'm concerned that if one of them ever breaks out of my net it will do some damage. However, I would never hit a real ball with my setup and I have no problem playing to my full potential. I wish they were white and a little cheaper. My next favorite ball is the GoSports Form Flight. At 15 grams they are the second heaviest balls and hit quite well. I also like that they are only .83 caliber each and are all white which makes them very comfortable to use with SkyTrak. This is the ball I used before I found Sci-Core. In my experience they can take a big hit and don't deform like the Almost Golf, although they seem very similar. With my use, the logo wears off too quickly and I use a marker to draw little patterns for the SkyTrak. They are too light in the hand and have the same hard plastic chalk feel as the Almost Golf. They don't feel soft or spongy and don't pinch, at least not with your hand. Next up is GoSports Foam and these are balls your kids can hit. They are much thinner and the lightest at 10 grams each. They are also the cheapest. I get the most spin with them, so you might want to try them with your short irons. I had friends at a party and we threw them out of the living room, past the dining room and into the kitchen a few times and nothing broke. You can easily crush them in your hand. Not surprisingly, although they work, they are the most unrealistic to use with a simulator. The other downside is that they come in four colors and the only logo is a faded white color that wears off quickly, so that's a real problem for the SkyTrack. I use a marker to draw shapes on each ball to help. My least favorite ball is Almost Golf. They feel like hard plastic with a slightly chalky feel. They are quite strong and cannot easily be crushed in the hand. I don't understand the positive reviews as these balls deform so quickly that after a few shots they become unusable. A few hard hits and the ball deforms noticeably and is no longer round. It gets pretty pricey at $1.90 a piece.
