decent carb but you need to buy more jets

After more hours than I care to admit I finally got this carb working on my bike. After some experimentation and reading about spark plugs based on colors at some internet resources I now have a winning combination. Stats: Sea level operation Jet Compatibility: Keihinmain Jet: #115 Pilot Jet: #35 Engine: Lifan 125 My son and I use the same Lifan 125cc engine and both pull this carb very well. I wish I could say I have some before and after acceleration values for you, but I don't. It works very well now. I hit 54 mph out of the blue where I seemed to hit 51 before. It might not be worth $100 to get to 3mph, but it seems smoother than the stock carb that came with my engine. Nozzles have to be purchased separately as Nibbi has a limited range and they were all too big for my conditions. If you notice the engine stalling while tuning the carburetor, it almost certainly indicates that you are too rich. The little instruction manual that comes with the carbs doesn't describe the symptom very well and actually made me think I was running too lean when it was the exact opposite. So the problem is, if you have an engine like the Lifan 125, the injectors included in the carburetor are too big! You'll need to purchase a set of Keihin-compatible ear tips of different sizes. The manual also states that the pilot jet only works up to 1/4 throttle. It didn't seem entirely true. If the engine is running at higher revs and you let off the gas, the engine will run very rough or try to turn you off. Downsizing the pilot jet to a smaller size (#35 in my case) made a big difference.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Almost never
