Review on πŸ”Œ MEGEAR Level 1 EV Charger: Portable Electric Vehicle Charging Station with Timer and LCD Screen (NEMA5-15 Plug) by Tim Curd

Revainrating 4 out of 5

All good except for the RFID function

I've been using this almost daily as an optional Tier 1 charger for a little over 2 months and so far so good. I've found that these tier 1 chargers just don't work with heavy use, but hopefully this will prove me wrong. The device is good, durable, the cable is long enough. A nice feature is also the small LED display that shows you important charging data such as total charging time, total kWh, current, mains voltage, charger activity and temperature (in degrees Celsius, cannot be changed). I love that you can also use it as a level 2 charger for faster charging where possible and applicable. What I don't like about this device is the inclusion of RFID technology to change amperage settings. It's great that you can make this change, but the method that requires you to do this is totally unnecessary. If you lose or lose your RFID cards, you effectively lose the ability to make those changes. Another annoyance: although the device defaults to 16A, it randomly drops to 6A, and if you don't have an RFID card handy you'll be stuck at 6A! If you travel with this charger and rely on it along the way, you should always have one of these RFID cards with you! There is absolutely no logical explanation as to why they chose to secure this feature with RFID technology. A simple, proven button would be a much better option. Only time will tell how this block holds up and if anything changes I'll tag and reply.
