Review on πŸ”§ Xuron 489 Combination Tip Pliers: Versatile and Precision Performance by Richard Sallah

Good choice for soft materials, plastic or metal

When I saw them at the Xuron booth at the National Train Show, they intrigued me. small round tip versus wide flat tip. The stand representative said she wasn't exactly sure what they were for. So I ordered a few to play around with the electronics and build the HO model. I've found them to be the ideal solution for bending small diameter plastic parts without cracking or warping. The problem with using two round tips is that they put high pressure on the soft plastic at two points, causing dents that weaken the plastic, usually fatally. The flat surface significantly reduces pressure points and helps control flex with less kickback. In my experience they are great for soft materials. Tip Dimensions: A flat anvil is approximately 0.85 wide in length; The round tip is oval, 0.020" x 0.035" at the extreme tip and widening to 0.10" x 0.12", with a narrow dimension perpendicular to the flat anvil. Viewed from the side, the spikes look like "(] <>". Both surfaces are almost flush when closed, the gap can be 5 mils.
