I use a 1/2" extension and have had no problems with that. The first time I removed the factory installed filter I found that it was severely overloaded. This filter would not move when I was just using my hands. With With this tool and a 1/2" socket wrench, the filter came off immediately. for your information. The filter only needs to be tightened by hand. At the next oil change I expect an easier disassembly.
