(early failure) is as reliable as a liquid-cooled turbo engine from VW, LeCar or Ugo

Bosch devices have historically been prone to problems. They said 4.9 is much better and will upgrade to it as soon as possible. Bosch 4.2 units seem to fail prematurely for a month or more. This is unacceptable, especially when you rely on it for automatic self-tuning, as is the case with Megasquirt and other aftermarket ECUs that rely on accurate and timely readings. Otherwise there is a risk of engine damage. Be sure to buy product protections as they are expensive. Chances are you will go through many. If anyone has found any reliable brand other than Bosch devices please post about it. I was surprised to see some bad reviews for the Bosch 4.9. I hope they are unfounded.
