I had a ten year old 24 inch monitor in my office so I wanted to connect a new Roku that I bought on sale. First I tried HDMI-DVI. cable, and even though I have a display, I keep getting a message that HDCP is preventing video from being displayed. Since the monitor didn't have speakers, I bought a splitter that separates the HDMI and audio signals so I can connect computer speakers for sound. . I no longer got the HDCP error, but the screen had a purple tint. Then I got this adapter and used a VGA cable. After that everything worked! The color has changed a bit, but the image on the screen is clearer than I expected. Yes, it would probably be cheaper and easier to get a budget TV, but I was determined to make it work.
