This is an excellent polypropylene measuring cup. The fact that it's made of this plastic means it's chemically resistant. I used to use a cheap "Betty Crocker" plastic measuring cup but quickly found that it was NOT resistant to chemicals like stabilized unleaded gasoline or concentrated herbicide. Basically, the chemicals in these mixes have softened the clear plastic and made it cloudy. This made it difficult to get accurate measurements. Also, I don't like the idea that what I'm measuring in this cup has traces of plastic due to softening. This chemical-resistant measuring cup gives me the confidence to measure liquids without fear of contamination from compounds leaking out of the cup. . As for a cheap dollar store mug. It went in the trash the day the mug arrived.
