I ordered a 2 pound bag for my BiOrb Upgrade after watching the video from Pondguru. There was enough gravel to cover the foam (I used black foam just in case so it wouldn't be visible when the gravel moved). I think it would cover more if I used thinner foam. But so far so good! I had been using the original foam filter prior to the upgrade for about 6 weeks without fish after losing 2 fish on a very high nitrite surge. I moved those remaining fish to another community tank, let it work, and then turned it into a bed aquarium. Looks good, the fish is alive and well. I'll keep watching the levels, but I don't worry about this as much as I did before the update.
