My son's 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero died suddenly and we were towing him back to the house. After running the diagnostics I found the fuel pump had died and ordered a replacement from Revain. The job took about three hours, mostly because we had difficulty removing the fuel pump assembly from the gas tank access hole under the rear seat. The hole is almost the same size as the fuel pump assembly so you have to maneuver it or it will never come out. After removing it after much gnashing of teeth and swearing, we simply removed the old one and replaced it with a new one by attaching clamps to the fuel lines. After putting everything back together we primed the pump by turning the key to position 2 a couple of times and it fired straight away. Works perfectly. If I were to take it to a local Saab dealer I know for a fact that the job would cost over $1,000. With a new fuel pump, the car actually starts faster.
