Most manufacturers proudly display their name or brand name on their products or product packaging. When I received this external DVD player/writer, the manufacturer's name was nowhere on the box other than small letters on the UPC sticker on the back of the box. The product itself is not branded but does have a model number. In any case, suffice it to say that this is a "new" product from China. The most notable feature of this drive compared to typical external drives is that the computer connection cable is integrated into the drive and, in fact, even has a molded storage compartment that fits snugly onto the cable. The cable is two-wire, allowing the user to connect via USB 3.0 or USB-C. A mysterious feature on the back of the drive is the micro-USB connector. I used a micro usb cable to connect the drive to my laptop and it powers on the drive and I can open the drive to insert or eject the drive but my windows pc doesn't have the drive" seen" although the drive churned it didn't play the disc I put in. With the built-in cable, I was able to easily play a rented DVD. A little guide recommends using a VLC or 5K player to play discs with this drive (I used VLC). USB 3/C functionality and an integrated self-storage cable make this external drive a powerful, easy-to-use accessory for most of today's floppy-less laptops, as well as for those of us who still need to use DVDs or CDs.
