So I really wanted this to work. My 2 year old keeps getting up in the middle of the night and I was hoping this retractable feature would work for us. Unfortunately this was not the case. Both times we installed and then reinstalled it, my 2 year old pulled it out of the wall and now it's tearing the paint off the wall. The extensions are still firmly in the wall, but the nails are completely out. I'm not sure how much she pulled on it (it was midnight), but she managed to get out of her room. So we're going to get that gate back and need to get another, more permanent one. It sucks because I hate putting up gates and taking them apart every morning or just opening and closing gates. It might work for a small child or a dog. However, I am unlucky! Back to sleepless nights until I find something better.
