They generally work *well*. I completely tuned my truck and then drove 1200 miles (in one week). While driving, one of the spark plugs failed and actually melted in half while in the engine. It caused an engine failure, ruptured the lightbulb under the hood, melted the corresponding spark plug wire and blew out the underside of my hood. I was able to contact the nearest mechanic on the highway and they confirmed what happened. That way I won't risk my car again.
