Bought this for my wife to use with her Sony Handycam to film my son's basketball games. A conventional tripod would take up too much space. My wife can tuck it between her legs without taking up extra space. The leg is like a ball joint that connects it to the monopod. It works with a small video camera, but it's not really stable enough for something of any significant weight. It's great for my purposes, but make sure it suits your needs before you buy it. I would never use it with my DSLR. It would be a disaster.
