Review on Kwikset 92640 001 Contemporary Electronic Motorized by Michael Straughter

I read some mixed reviews about this product which made me nervous about buying it at first but I have only had positive results. I bought it for my parents house. They come and go a lot and we kids stop etc and I thought it would be a fun gift that they would never buy but would be delighted. I bought the product and it arrived in 2 days via Prime. All the reviews I read were pretty positive about the quality of the unit but were VERY mixed when it came to installation and programming. Some left paragraphs about how difficult both were and you need to allow 3 hours to go through them and then other comments were basically "Great! Very easy setup." So I had no idea if I could figure it out, I'm not super smart - I'm tech savvy so I figured I could make the programming easy, but I wasn't so sure about the setup .But you know what? I'm in the "super easy install" group! - Install Hardware - I installed this bad boy in about 30 minutes (I used a drill to screw it in and out, so maybe more time if you're doing it by hand) and it wasn't a new door with a bolt hole or whatever. I replaced a traditional latch, basically unscrewed everything from the old latch, and then followed the instructions to put it on install. I knew it would be easy to remove the old one but wasn't so sure about installing the new one. Admittedly the instructions weren't the best but if you do the step en (check out the images for reference) and think about what you're doing, it's pretty simple. Again, the installation took less than 30 minutes, and I was talking to my parents about something in the meantime. - Programming - now this part was easy for me. At first it wasn't clear how it works, but after looking at the instructions I found that it's VERY easy to program. Just follow the instructions in the programming manual. This is essentially your programming code, followed by "kwikset key" followed by the number associated with the task you want to perform, then "kwikset key" to start the task (e.g. an unlock code add, change auto-lock time, etc.). .) - In a few days - my parents like it. At first they thought it was cool, but after a week of use they find it super convenient and useful. The only thing I had with him was a separate knob to light up the keys at night. When you press "Kwikset" they turn on for 0.3 seconds and when you press the random number you want, press "Kwikset" to cancel your input and launch the actual code. Basically, when it's very dark, you need to know where the first button in your unlock code is so that it lights up and then you can see the rest. Otherwise it's great. For the price this product is amazing. Super good build quality and works as it should.
