Review on πŸ’‘ SLIK SBH-120 DQ Compact Ballhead with Quick Release, 4.5 lbs. Capacity, Black (618-325) by Sarala Cannon

Low ball head - suitable for specific purposes.

I bought this ball head after using a Slik Lighty Pod III. The monopod is nice and light, just right for travel, and has a ball head, but you have to screw the ball head into the camera tripod mount, which is quite cumbersome. Screw on the monopod and it will be much easier to use and carry. The Lighty Pod comes with a model SBH-100 ball head, so the SBH-100 DQ is a quick-release version of the same ball head. Unfortunately, you can't buy a monopod with a quick-change head option; You need to buy a monopod with the SBH-100 and also buy a quick release head (if you need a quick release option). Since I bought the monopod about 6 months before the quick-change head, I simply bought it later. However, if I were to buy both items at the same time, I think there are probably other monopods that would be a better deal. It's a light head and I wouldn't put a large zoom lens on it, but as I said, I use it for travel, so the main criterion is the light weight of the head (and the monopod it fits on). The exhaust plate is all metal, which is nice. The only thing I don't like about it (with the light mode limitation) is the lack of a secure locking mechanism for the quick release head. You can accidentally snag your shirt latch and knock the camera off the monopod, so you need to be a little careful. But I still use a camera neck strap, even with a monopod, so I hope that never happens.
