Sophisticated but very functional scanner

The Uniden BCD325P2 scanner is a multifunctional scanner capable of receiving all of the modern analog and digital signals you are likely to encounter in your area. But it's a complex process with a steep learning curve for the average user new to scanning. In the 1980s, when signals were mostly standard analogue, I used my old Bearcat scanner to regularly listen to police, fire and air traffic control messages. I recently decided that I want to do it again. But when I started thinking about which scanner to buy, I felt a little overwhelmed by how complex signals have gotten over the past 35 years. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a scanner, but I quickly realized I needed to buy a scanner that could receive the new digital and trunk signals as well as the old regular analog. After reading the reviews I decided to buy the Uniden BCD325P2 and I think I made the right choice even though the price was way more than I wanted to spend. Digital and trunked communications are common in my area. If I had bought an analog scanner the only signals I could hear would be air traffic control messages. Many people have mentioned how difficult it is to program this scanner. And that would be if you tried to manually type all the frequencies you want to scan directly into the scanner. This is not the recommended practice. Actually, you need to use a computer to download the scanner. Luckily I have a technical education, so I had no trouble programming the scanner. I just subscribed to radioreference.com and used the Frescan program to create the initial program configuration to load into the scanner. Unfortunately, when I started scanning, I quickly realized that the supplied rubber ducky antenna was very inadequate. So I had to spend even more money to buy a better antenna. I'm making way more money from scanning than I intended. Well, you can't take it with you. Now I will spend my time learning all about modern communication signals and how to use the scanner features.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Useless features
