I've been using an old canister vacuum for many years. My biggest complaint was that on a powerful vacuum, the brushes aren't strong enough to keep the base of the vacuum off the floor - it'll just smash into the hard floor, which isn't what you want. Adding bristles to the sides seems to have solved this problem. However, they seem to be confusing two other functions that I find problematic. 1) The tool is now about 1/2 inch thicker so it won't go under my furniture like it used to. 2) The up/down shift lever has been redesigned. It now jumps out of position when the bristles are down. It's helpful but a little painful. Also, with the extra bristles on the sides, it's not as easy to sweep the tool sideways over the clumps of dog hair (in my case), allowing it to bypass the bristles and go straight into the vacuum. It's also frustrating because virtually all dog hair gets stuck in the bristles, requiring you to unplug the brushes more often to clean them. Generally they screwed up too much and performed worse than the old style. The problem is that the Fein roller floor tool doesn't fit Shop Vac or Porter Cable hoses, so you'll have to buy those. What are you going to do?
