Single Sponge Filter Review - good for starting a brackish water tank

I've needed something to circulate good bacteria and get all the algae to grow since trying to grow opae ula shrimp rescue. I've seen a lot of people online who have had something similar and tried it, it does a very good job of aerating the water and doing some basic filtering of the bigger stuff. It appeared that some strands of this macroalgae were extending from the other side of the tank, but that was just confirmation that it was working. After a few months, the suction cup doesn't seem to be sticking well to the walls of the tank; No idea if it's because of the microalgae layer or because the suction cup doesn't like brackish water. Anyway, he did a good job building my tank before my shrimp came, I probably won't leave him as he can suckle shrimp eggs/nymphs, but I will leave him when I make more!

Pros
  • Rinse or wring out sponges with aquarium water
Cons
  • boring packaging
