Review on πŸ“± Wireless Duplex Mobile Color Page Scanner - Brother RDS-920DW by Collin Donahue

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great scanner. Not ideal for Linux users

I bought this to reduce the amount of paper in our filing cabinet. I wanted to be able to easily retrieve digital copies of our old invoices instead of lugging around paper. Pros: 1) Scans relatively quickly. It's not a speed monster, but it's better than using a flatbed scanner 2) Images look very good 3) Scans easily on both sides 4) Can scan over paper length 5) Colors come out well 6) Can work with JPG or PDF 7) Battery works LONG. I literally scanned for 3 hours on a single charge. 8) The controls and interface are very easy to use. Cons: 1) Certain types of paper are difficult to work with and I pull them left or right no matter how you set the margins. 2) SAYS it's Linux compatible, but I couldn't get it to work on my PC, which isn't Linux based. I tried 4 different distros (Ubuntu based, Suse based, Fedora based and Arch based). The files you create open, but the scanner itself doesn't seem to "appear" on your PC. I've searched the entire website for drivers for the scanner over and over again, but to no avail. Although it claims to work, I couldn't install it. I'm deducting one star because I bought it specifically for its Linux compatibility. I am still happy with my purchase. It works great and has allowed me to get rid of a TON of unnecessary waste.
