Review on Frigidaire WF2CB PureSource2 Filtration System by John Collins

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I have used many of these filters, the newest produces water that tastes like rubber and plastic.

Over the years I have bought 14 of these filters for our Electrolux fridge. 12 of those purchases were from Revain, 2 from Lowe's. It used to be a great filter. When the time came I replaced it with a new one, ran 2 gallons of water through it and all was fine. This is no longer the case. My last filter arrived last week, so one night I did my usual bedtime routine. When I got back from work the next day, I poured myself a glass of water and before I'd even drunk it, I could smell gum coming out of the glass. After tasting the water, my tongue confirmed what my nose suspected. The water had a strong gummy taste with an aftertaste of burnt plastic. Obviously nothing I'd like to keep drinking. After changing my clothes I decided to run some more water through the filter to see if it would fix the smell and taste. It's not like this. I then added more water, at this point my total was 6 gallons, and tasted the water again. This time in a different glass just to make sure there was no aftertaste left in the original glass. Although the smell is almost gone, the taste remains the same. It was Thursday evening. It's Saturday afternoon and I've added 12 gallons of water, plus as much as the ice maker has used since I threw away all the ice on Friday night, and the taste is the same. Flavors aside, I've found that if you fill a glass with water and leave it on the counter, a fine film will form on the bottom of the glass after it's sat overnight. Between taste and sand residue, I am more than concerned about the quality of the water coming out of this filter. Needless to say I'm disappointed and after reading some recent reviews here on Revain I'm not sure how to proceed. It seems Frigidaire somehow changed the filter. I wish I still had my previous filter so I could take my dremel to both it and the new one to see what differences I can find. Have the charcoal suppliers changed? is it something else I'm curious and wish I still had the old one so I could take the 2 filters apart and explore. At the moment I would not recommend this product. I think I'll try a third-party filter that fits and see if I get better results with that.
