Review on πŸ”Š Skar Audio EVL-65 D4: 6.5" 400W Max Power Dual 4 Ohm Car Subwoofer - Superior Sound and Performance! by Derek Davie

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great performance for 6.5

I love this little thing. Plugged in sixth order, fed about 300 watts and had fun with it. Such a small subwoofer allows me to try different box designs again and again without spending a lot of money. The thing reaches deep into the right box. I've had impressive results at 26Hz with my current setup. As a bass player I find it funny and surprisingly powerful. The best part is the sound quality, which I get thanks to the small footprint in the car and the very low power consumption. This couples with my more SQ oriented frontstage setup and with a little work with time alignment and EQ I was able to dial in the sound perfectly when I want to LISTEN to music and not just PLAY. The downside is that the small size of the driver limits the size of the voice coil and the strength of the suspension, as well as the size of the motor. While impressive for its size, I think I'd be happier with the output if I went for an 8, but that's just my basshead speaking. At only 300 watts, I heard the voice coil on the back of the motor fail. The flat connections also leave a lot to be desired, they get in the way of cabling because the surface is a bit confusing. I would like spring or screw terminals. I ended up soldering the tails to them. Overall I have to say this little subwoofer is perfect for an inexpensive upgrade to your sound system if you just want to enjoy your music with a little extra bass. The easiest thing you can do to wake up your car's stereo, surprisingly, is to bypass your factory amp and hook up factory speakers to an aftermarket amp and tweak a little bit of bass too. You will be surprised how good the speakers in your car are and how bad the factory amp is. There are several good options for everyone in one DSP and amplifier kit at an affordable price. Add a small bass rig like this and you have an amazing upgrade for less than $500.
