Review on Enhancing Printer Control: Upgrade to BIGTREETECH Smoothieboard for Smoother Performance by Jake Pavelko

Big advantages over standard enders 3

First, installation is not as easy as E3 mini for enders, but DO NOT USE E3 mini. Drivers are connected to the motherboard, they dissipate heat worse and will burn you. I've gone through THREE E3 miniboards in 6 months. If this board didn't perform so well I would have given up on BTT altogether. I printed with this board for hours every day for several months with no problems. Being familiar with the E3 setup, this board was easy to install. If you've never done this before, the standard BTT documentation leaves a lot to be desired, but the internet will help you. It worked so well that I used this board to replace a Makerbot 2X board and converted it to Marlin firmware. .I am 100% impressed with this board at this price. Things to note: - Power from the USB port is fed back, use a USB power isolator circuit if using an OctoPi setup. - Make sure you have really good airflow. The board will get hot no matter what drivers you use. If you are printing from ABS or high bed temp I would recommend an external MOSFET for the base. It heats up MUCH faster and you don't have to worry about frying the whole board.
