This device and its features look fantastic. Too good to be true for the price. It seals well. Cuts well. But it doesn't do the main job this machine was designed for - it doesn't have suction. I stood in front of this machine like an idiot for 20 minutes trying by any means necessary to get it to suck the bag completely. Every time I see a part of a bag change I get excited. only to see all the signs of suction stopping, although the machine continues to make noise. I tried to help it by squeezing the parts where all the corners are filled with air - it helps a little. But the machine just doesn't know how to create a vacuum. This isn't the first car I've used. I know how they work. No user error. This machine just has no suction power. I returned a product, which I rarely do, even if I'm not completely satisfied with products. UPDATED a day after the above: I returned it and bought the Food Saver model at my local Costco. Although this works very well, it is many times more expensive. As I started using the new device, it dawned on me. Maybe that's a user error. This new unit, like my old ones, has a physical latch/lever/whatever that secures the moving part of the machine to the base before the machine allows you to do anything (like seal or vacuum). Revain basics - no. I just assumed that in order to vacuum, you have to press down hard on the lid and hold it while you press the button with your other hand. Boy was I wrong. When I later looked at the online instruction manual, I realized that I clearly hadn't pressed the cover hard enough. It should click and snap into place. This probably explains the weak suction I had. I think this is a design flaw. But some call it a means of making a product at a lower cost. The machine does not have a sensor that detects whether the lid is properly closed before turning on the vacuum function. So I just accepted. Wrong guess. Since I sent the device back, I can no longer determine whether it has enough suction power. I changed the star rating from 2 to 3.
