Review on πŸ”§ Derale 25782 Sandwich Adapter Kit with Thermostatic Control by Eddie Rivas

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Poorly designed unit :-(

First the good things: there are several adapters, gaskets and clear instructions, and the price is decent. However, I will not install this product on any car, first the mating surface on the filter side, it has a very rough surface, it was cut off too quickly, secondly, the thermostat cavity goes into the trajectory of the filter sealing ring, ie the filter sealing surface is cut in half (I use the original Ford Motorcraft FL-910S filter), so there is a chance that between the filter and the intermediate plate leaks. This is a serious technical defect. The blade tip of the thermostat spring touches the body and is therefore spring steel, rubbing against the alloy material and generating dirt. In addition, the area where the union nut mates with the sandwich adapter is not machined and is not flat as it is straight from the cast st ammt: The nut cuts into the alloy and pulverizes the material, creating debris when pulled. , and the steel flare nuts themselves contain machining waste, presumably due to internal threads. The port threads aren't deep enough: I've tried fitting a 10AN male to a 3/8 NPT male and I can't thread them all the way in because the fully threaded ports aren't deep enough. Finally, the flare nuts are an unusual size, all 10AN fittings (typical of oil cooler lines) use a 1" hex nut, but for some unreasonable reason these sleeves are sized 1 1/8". In summary, this is a poorly designed unit, the filter seal does not make contact with a smooth surface and actually makes contact with the thermostat cavity in the housing, bisecting the sealing surface in two places and making the seal unreliable and the thermostat is questionable , and there is debris everywhere. They cannot use standard 3/8 NPT fittings and require a special wrench.
