Review on Efficient and Powerful: MSD 💪 High Pressure Electric Fuel Pump, 43 GPH by Kevin Pirlet

Pumps just fine for electric fuel pumps

I got one of these in 2007 when converting my 1984 Toyota 4Runner from a carburetor to a fuel injection system. It's a crawler that does double duty when there's something interesting to drive/drive/run over or when other vehicles need to be pushed/pulled/hauled. That means the truck is being abused and I basically don't think about the fuel pump. He was repeatedly dunked in mud and muddy water and continued to work without hesitation. Until 2012 when it was not used for almost a year. When I tried to run it in 2013 it stopped working so I replaced it with another MSD just like this one. As it turned out, the pump did not fail. The nasty ethanol in the fuel lines was making my entire fuel system gooey and blocking that pump. The pump is not to blame. I had to replace everything including the injectors before it worked again. Note to self: Always use seafoam in an aquarium. In any case, this pump has been providing me with impeccable service for 8 years now. The only downside is that it's not quiet. Mine is firmly mounted to the frame and is very audible even with the engine running. Granted I don't have any doors, windows, insulation or floor mats in the car, but most of the noise seems to be coming from the frame anyway. I wouldn't recommend it for daily driving, but only because of the background noise. Maybe everything would be fine if he was on an elastic band.

Pros
  • Great for fuel and nitrogen control systems
Cons
  • Available in white only
