I definitely recommend buying, I didn't notice any disadvantages.
We bought this sandwich maker after a similar, out of order Polaris, this panel is not removable, but in fact we use only an ordinary grill. I really like that you can put a sandwich of any height, the lid tightly presses it with its weight. Heats up quickly. Very pretty and compact.
