I purchased this item after reading reviews about it. There were a few one star reviews but those issues appear to have been resolved. Previous complaints have said that the clips holding the two gate sections together were plastic, but the ones I received were metal screws. There have also been many complaints about the hassle of installing it. Many said the circuits were difficult to trace and took several hours to install. I never bothered to look at the diagrams because the written instructions were very clear. I laid out the pieces as they were in the book and just read. "screw (to) in (m)" It seems quite simple. The corner bracket is only on the hinge side so I had to adjust the bracket on the latch side. It took me less than 20 minutes including setup for my specific debut. The doors are sturdy and easy to open and close. Some people have complained that the gate is awkward to close, I don't see that as a problem. It will not close automatically. So if this feature is important to you, keep looking. You must close the gate and press down to lock. It's VERY easy and when installed correctly is very smooth. Some people have complained that the latches are plastic and fail over time. I see this as a potential issue, but the company will provide a replacement if this is an issue. (I called them to ask). I don't see plastic breaking apart except through abuse or years of heavy use. opens quietly and gently, looks good, durable and safe. What more could you want from a baby gate? Thanks to the company for resolving previous issues. This is a corporate practice that I can stand behind. Update: After a year and three months the bottom hinge broke. This was because my husband fell in while carrying the box. I called the company who sent a free replacement. This gate probably opens and closes more than 30 times a day as it is the main entrance to the house. I have absolutely nothing to complain about and as this gate lasted a year with some abuse and the broken part was entirely our fault I'm really impressed. We went through 3 gates in a month before we found this one. Still a five star product in my book!
