This was a defective product. The nylon ring was properly attached to the metal hub and the mixer ran with little strain, but once the cookie mixture had thickened with flour or oatmeal, the nylon gear turned on the hub. At first I thought it was an engine problem and spent some time troubleshooting the engine, but later found that if I clamped the hub in a vise and turned the notched ring with channel locks, the nylon would engage the hub. The manufacturer refused to replace the defective part because I did not have time to complete my investigation within the 30 day return period.
