I debated whether to construct my own NAS or to purchase this one for quite some time. I'm glad I made the investment in a DS218 and have never once regretted it; there has been no need to get out the tambourine. Drive Video Audio Photo Station, DLNA, with additional disk synchronization, access via smb, and nfs, allows me to set it up and forget it, saving me a ton of time. The realtek processor and 2GB of RAM are more than adequate for normal home use; they begin to show their limits only when simultaneously indexing a large number of photographs and playing a video.
